Pathfinder
Right To Know HazCom Compliance Labels

First OSHA said color coded
HMIS® and NFPA® labels with numbers from 0-4 written
in were acceptable for use on in-plant containers under the Hazard
Communication Standard or Right to Know law. Then they changed
their mind and said color coded labels weren't acceptable. They
have changed their mind again and now say color coded labels are acceptable, provided employees
are given extra training on each chemical so they know exactly
what its hazards are. (What
OSHA says about HCS labels.)
We'd like to suggest you
look at Pathfinder labels as an alternative to the on-again,
off-again status of color coded labels. There is no question
that our labels comply with the in-plant container labeling rules
of the Right to Know Law since they do list the specific hazards
of the chemical and require no extra training.
To use our L-1 labels, you
simply write in the name or trade name of the chemical as it
appears on the Material Safety Data Sheet. Next you check off
the appropriate specific hazards on the label as listed on the
Material Safety Data Sheet. If a specific hazard is not pre-listed
on our label, you can write it in one of the blanks on the label.
Our L-2 label can be used
if you wish to specify personal protective equipment. The L-2
label allows you to specify the exact type of protective equipment
needed such as "rubber gloves, neoprene" rather than
the general designation of "gloves" used in other labeling
systems. In addition, clear adhesive backed polyester cover sheets
are available to protect your labels from smearing and smudging.
We also offer a reduced version of our L-1 labels, the L-3, and
cover sheets for small containers.
