News Update: OSHA Resumes
Enforcement of Respirator Annual Fit Testing Requirements for
TB The Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has resumed enforcement
of the requirement for annual fit testing of respirators for
occupational exposure to tuberculosis (TB). This action follows
the removal of the Wicker Amendment from the FY 2008 Consolidated
Appropriations Act by the U.S. Congress. 4/17/08

for you to do it. You start by picking the type of sign: Danger;
Notice; Warning: Think: etc. Then you type in your message. Next
you pick the thumbnail picture for the sign. Finally, you create

is facing a budget crunch and it's even having an effect on MIOSHA. 12/06/07

Budget for FY 2008 - October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008
Even though their budget
is $26,198,200, the agency actually doesn't cost Michigan taxpayers
a single penny. $12,197,000 is paid to MIOSHA by federal OSHA
to partially cover the cost of conducting inspections. 11/20/07
News Update: OSHA Publishes
Final Rule Covering Employer Paid Personal Protective Equipment
OSHA has announced a final
rule on employer paid personal protective equipment (PPE). Under
the rule, all PPE, with a few exceptions, will be provided at
no cost to the employee. 11/15/07
News Update: MIOSHA
Publishes Revised TB Enforcement Policy
On May 22, 2007, MIOSHA
published, and began enforcing, its revised 54 page Enforcement
Policy and Procedures for Evaluating Occupational Exposure to
Tuberculosis. One major change is that all Medical Offices
and Clinics are now covered by the TB Enforcement Policy
and must comply. MIOSHAs previous TB Enforcement Policy
only covered Medical Offices that performed high hazard
procedures, like cough induction, on known or suspected
TB patients. 10/17/07

$248,000 in Penalties Against Abbyland Foods Inc.
OSHA has proposed $248,000
in fines against Abbyland Foods Inc., a meat processing company
located in Abbotsford, Wis., for alleged multiple willful and
serious violations of federal workplace safety standards. 10/3/07

Year 2006 OSHA Fined Employers $155,450,362
In fiscal year 2006 Federal and State OSHA
inspectors conducted 96,637 inspections finding 211,197 violations
and collecting fines totaling $155,450,362. 9/16/07

Stone Fabricator for Failing to Correct Previously Cited Health
and Safety Hazards
OSHA has proposed an additional
$39,200 in fines against a stone fabricator for allegedly failing
to correct health and safety hazards cited in a previous OSHA
