MIOSHA
Update Seminar
Our six hour MIOSHA Update
Seminar will cover three major topics of current interest with
emphasis on many new and changed requirements.
Bloodborne Pathogens Standard
Youll learn about the
basic requirements of the MIOSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard
(BPS) with emphasis on portions of the law that are most commonly
misunderstood. Youll also learn about 15 new Interpretations
of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and how they now affect
BPS enforcement. These include:
Qualifications of
trainers and annual refresher training requirements.
How to deal with interrupted Hepatitis B vaccination schedules.
Who can sign the mandatory Written Opinion for Hepatitis
Vaccination.
OSHAs jusidiction over medical waste and its
disposal.
Hazard Communication Standard
- Right to Know
MIOSHAs Hazard Communication
Standard was their most cited safety standard again
last year. It applies to all employers who have or use chemicals
at work, regardless of how small or large the quantity. Even
pharmaceutical drugs, office supplies, cleaning products, and
consumer products you can purchase at stores are covered chemicals!
Youll learn how to avoid the most common HCS compliance
mistakes.
Payment for Personal Protective
Equipment
On November 15, 2007, OSHA
revised their PPE Standard. MIOSHA must revise their PPE Standard
to coincide with OSHAs no later than August 13, 2008. Full
compliance will be required no later than November 15, 2008.
The revised PPE Standard deals with who pays for which items
of PPE. OSHA has published a 90 page detailed explanation of
how businesses must implement the revised PPE Standard, which
MIOSHA must also follow. It includes 20 pages of fine print explaining
which items of PPE the employer must pay for; when and how the
employer must pay for the PPE; and when the PPE must be replaced
at no cost to the employee. Youll learn exactly
how the revised PPE standard will affect your business.
Questions will be taken and
answered throughout the presentation.

In
Michigan MIOSHA writes their own safety regulations and in many
cases they contain extra requirements not found in OSHA regulations.
In fact, you can be 100% in compliance with OSHA rules and still
be fined by MIOSHA!
MIOSHAs
Hazard Communication, or Right to Know, is a classic example
of these additional requirements. MIOSHA adopted the OSHA HazCom
Standard and then added four pages of additional requirements.
Examples of other standards with additional requirements made
by MIOSHA:
Bloodborne Pathogens Standard - additional protective
equipment and
procedural requirements.
Exposure limits for chemicals - many of MIOSHAs
Permissible Exposure
Limits are lower than OSHAs.
MIOSHA 300 Log - additional recordkeeping and notification
requirements.
MIOSHA also has additional requirements in many other
standards.
Dont
waste your time and money attending an OSHA Compliance Update
when you really need a MIOSHA Compliance Update!
Last year
MIOSHA collected more than $4.1 million in fines from Michigan
employers!
An inspection isnt the time to learn that your MIOSHA compliance
and employee training programs are noncompliant!
